Healthcare Financing and Organization Healthcare is a field that is constantly evolving. This is because of fundamental changes in their financing and organization. The result is that the entire operation is shifting. To fully understand what is occurring requires focusing on why this is a key component for the nurse -manager. This will be accomplished by looking at the way healthcare is organized, the roles and the scope of contemporary practicum. Together, these elements will highlight the shifts and the long-term implications on the field of nursing.

Describe how health care is organized and financed, including the implications of business principles, such as patient and system cost factors. Healthcare is organized based upon the type of entity that is established. There are three different models that are used to include: for profit, nonprofit and governmental. For profit organizations are focusing on meeting the needs of patients, reducing costs and increasing earnings. In these situations, there are general principles for the industry with each facility having the option of going beyond them.

This means that they will use procurement systems which help them to monitor patients and manage the services provided. (Orgeas, 2010) Nonprofits are concerned about meeting the general needs of society and communities. They do not receive any income and will reinvest what they earn to enhance the quality of services. These organizations are following specific mission objectives outlined by their bylaws. This means that they will use systems that address the needs of patients over the longer term.

(Orgeas, 2010) Governmental entities are designed to address the needs of specific segments of society such as: veterans, the poor and senior citizens. Their business principles are set by the polices established by state and local governments. In this case, they will establish negotiated costs and have facilities that will follow the supply chain management system for government agencies. (Orgeas, 2010) Examine the roles and responsibilities of regulatory agencies and their effect on patient quality, workplace safety, and the scope of nursing and other health professionals' practice.

Regulatory agencies play an important role in improving quality and protecting patients against unsound practices. The result is that these entities will establish a series of guidelines that will follow certain procedures all facilities must follow. This has an impact on safety by creating protocol for ensuring that everyone is following the highest practices. Once this occurs, is the point safety will improve. (Lowe, 2015) However, at the same time, there are professional organizations that are going beyond these guidelines (such as: American Nurses Association).

They will take their core ideas and expand upon them to improve professionalism. For example, the modern code is based off of pledges from different codes that were developed over the years. The most notable include: the Nightingale Pledge, a Tentative Code and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. This was used to establish modern day licensing practices and fundamental principles which guide nurses every day.

(Lowe, 2015) A good example of this can be seen with observations from Lowe (2015) with her saying, "Recognizing that nurses face ethical challenges in everyday practice, the need to strengthen the ethical foundation of nursing, the ethical pressures resulting from.
