Personal statement on the Erdkinder activities to engage in Erdkinder is one of the experiences that one goes through and comes out a changed and in majority of the cases stronger and more experienced and polished in philanthropy and community volunteering than before. It is the dream of each enthusiastic candidate of Erdkinder to come out with an A and that was my motivation as well which will make me earn an A in this.
I often enjoy outdoor activities and always upbeat about these events whenever they are organized. I am the type of participant who values arriving early for the preparation for the outdoor activities and often like assisting others settle in and organize their camping materials, particularly those who are new to camping or such like outdoor activities. I also value doing things within the time schedule and to have all the camping and working tools well organized and placed at the correct locations to make them easier to find and safely so by others who come after me.
In executing assignments in the volunteer sights or camps, I value team work, since I have learned from the various volunteer missions I have been to that diversity is strength and a consulted approach often gives better results without burdening one individual. In team work, there are two virtues that to me always works to hold the team together; active listening and participation. There is need to listen to each individual's contribution and idea and once an agreement is reached, then one must take part fully to implement the idea without burdening others.
It is also important to know that all the camping activities or hiking or volunteering activities do not take place in void but within given specific diverse communities. Recognizing the importance of the these communities in making your experience a success, and respecting their cultures and pre-existing customs and ways of doing things before your arrival is key in having a positive experience and a lasting impression on the community. I often remind myself that no culture is superior to the other and your ways of doing things is as good as they look before your own eyes. In the case of camping or hiking, I always ensure that me and my team clean up the place we used for camping, put out any fires and generally leave the place better than we found it, if not then just as we found it.
These above skills have been sharpened over years, with each experience from the teaching over 15 years, spending most of my summer in the family farms with the cattle and sheep in the ranches. I have also spent 2 years in Africa doing mostly volunteer jobs under harsh conditions and another 1 year in El-Salvador doing relief services under catholic. While back at home, I often engage in faming in Arizona, the brutal heat not hindering me from my farming. I have come to learn many things through my inquisitive nature and my organized approach of everything I do. With these experiences and enthusiasm for the outdoor activities, earning an A in Erdkinder is what I look forward to, but above that, having a consistent positive impact on each community that my team and I may engage in.
