Riordan Manufacturing Human Resources Information Systems
The Riordan Manufacturing is an organization that produces the plastic injection molding, and the management decides to take an advantage of the state of art technology to combine a variety of tools into a single application to develop the HRIS (human resources information systems). However, the organization needs to develop application architecture, process design, and system security for an effective implementation of the system. This document discusses the system design and system security for the Riordan HRIS.
Riordan Process Design and Application Architecture
The paper will use the web-based application for the application development based on the benefits that HR department will derive from the system. Availability is one of the benefits of the web application because it can be accessed through the internet by multiple users at the same time. The three-tier architecture will be used to design the web-based application, which includes a network server, web client as well as a backend information systems to support the database. The paper designs the relational database that includes the process model and data model. The data model describes the structure of the database while the process model designs the queries to perform operations. A symbol "rectangle" represents the entities while the symbol "diamond" represents a relationship between two or more entities. Fig 1 provides the DFD (Data Flow Diagram) for the database. The data flow diagram is the graphical illustration that reveals the data stores, processes, and external entities that connect data flows in the system.

The Process Model
The process model reveals the overall functionality of the information systems. The DFD (data flow diagram) is an effective tool used to analyze the information systems and data transfer process. Moreover, the process model assists in constructing, and testing, implementing the process effectively. Fig 2 reveals the authentication process of the DFD.

Security of the Information Systems
Security is the process of protecting the information systems from data loss and disruption. Typically, data are to be kept secured from both external and internal threats, and one of the strategies to integrate security system in the data is to apply the user authentication process by making Employees, Employers, and Administrator to pass through the authentication process before allowing them accessing the systems. Different security protocols should be used to protect the information system. The integration of firewall technology is one of the effective security systems to protect the HRIS. The firewall technology assists in preventing the unauthorized network from accessing the network system of the Riordan Manufacturing. The firewalls be used to protect the corporate internet, internal network (intranet), and the extranet.
Moreover, there is a need to install the IDS (intrusion detection system) to detect an unauthorized access in the systems. The organization also needs to install the IPS (intrusion prevention system) to prevent an unauthorized access to the network system. Effective security system requires a combination of firewall, IPS, and IDS, which is an effective tool to protect the organizational information systems. Riordan Manufacturing also needs to integrate the encryption technology to protect the information systems because the encryption technology assists employees to transfer data across the network systems without fear of interception. The encryption system changes the data into the unreadable texts where an authorized person with the decryption key will only be able to read the data. (Stalling, 2011). Moreover, the management of Riordan should implement a disaster discovery plan to protect the data from natural and man-made disasters. For example, the organization needs to back up all the sensitive data in case of natural disaster, and the backup should be transferred at a location very far away from the original data to be recovered in case the original data are lost. The cloud has become the effective data backup strategy to allow organizations to store their data online. Riordan organization should also develop a security policy that all employees should follow by making them understanding that they should keep their passwords highly confidential, and desist from downloading any attachment.
Riordan Network System
The network model reveals the interconnection of the company LAN (Local Area Network) and WAN (Wide Area Network). The HR information system hardware will consist of 1000 baseF backbone connected to the corporate LAN. The LAN will also be connected to WAN through Ring topology and Bus. The application servers will consist of NAS file storage servers, UNIX-based servers, and NT network servers. The company will also integrate the UPS for the power backup of all the servers. The Riordan network system should consist:
