Human Services
The activity of the National Organization for Human Services is a rather important one for the society and the community in which it develops its activity. The website providing information on its activities is therefore an important environment where ideas can be promoted and views be described. However, as there are positive aspects of the matter, there are also negative ones. In the end though, the site is a good source of information regarding the activities of the NOHS.
One of the positive aspects of the site is the interactive nature of the presentation of the information. More precisely, the fact that most articles have the option of commenting upon their information is rather important because it establishes a communication path between the institution represented by the site and the actual visitor or member. At the same time, it leaves open the possibility of the visitor to express his views and comments in a manner that can make it relevant for the institution.
Despite this positive aspect, the articles presented on the site seem to be limited in information. In this sense, from the introductory one cannot fully understand the mission of the organization nor its connection to the world. Therefore, a first time viewer may find it difficult to thoroughly understand the actual job the organization does.
The world is made of knowledge and the transmission of information. The NOHS has well understood this aspect and created the site accordingly. Therefore, another positive aspect of its online organization is the possibility to collaborate via the Internet with the Journal of Human Services Education. It represents an opportunity for students and professionals to collaborate at the level of the electronic mail in order to put new ideas in the focus of traditional practitioners. This aspect is important because it enables an exchange of views and ideas, but not in the form of a comment but in a more organized manner, that of the journal article.
The negative aspect about the collaboration with the Journal is the fact that there is no actual online version of the Journal, an element which limits drastically its accessibility. The communication of the ideas available is essential for the author who can benefit from critics as well as favorable reviews. However, the fact that there is no possibility on this site for people and visitors to comment on the articles sent by the collaborators is a negative aspect especially if taken into consideration that commenting and advising is indeed a good resource of the site.
