In "Federigo's Falcon," the female protagonist Monna Giovanna was widowed by her husband who suddenly fell ill and passed away. Her husband was a very wealthy man, and together they had a son who become the sole beneficiary of his father's estate. From the beginning of the story, female's roles in the Middle Ages become apparent. The story writes, "...he made his son, who was growing up, his heir, and, since he had loved Monna Giovanna very much, he made his/her heir should his son die without a legitimate heir..." They were able to express themselves more freely, although not to the extent to which they express themselves today. Women were beginning to realize that they were not being seen as equal beings, and some women spoke...

Most of the women in today's time period think and speak as the aforementioned character does. However, a more realistic approach during the Renaissance era would be from the upcoming character, "...we have no reason to speak against men, who are our admirers and lovers; they are our protectors, defenders, and maintainers..." The latter statement is a much better representation of how the majority of women expressed themselves toward men during this era. Although it was clear that women were not seen as being equal, they instead attempted to focus on what they had and what the men provided them with. It is however, a much better improvement over…

Relationships Ulysses by James Joyce is written in epic style and thus is not easy to grasp in terms of its scope and meaning. The novel can be read in different contexts; sometimes it appears to be nothing more than a commentary on society and social evils. At others it reads like a commentary of various types of human relationships and yet at other, it seems to be experimenting with different

Isaac and Rebekah seemed to have a happy and healthy functional marriage. While it is never overtly stated in the text, the implication is that the two love one another. She passes into old age, which makes one believe that she will

These shows depict diverse expressions of sexuality and relationships within the gay and lesbian communities, but they also tend to overgeneralize. Bisexuality is hardly treated at all, because it does not fit into neatly defined categories like "gay" and "straight." Occasionally this theme is discussed in films and television, as with one episode of Six Feet Under. Stereotypes can constrain real-life behavior as film and television offer visual cues for

Imagery in Theodore Roethke's "My Papa's Waltz" A poem's imagery is one of the most effective literary tools an author can use to better communicate the general theme of the poem itself to the reader. Imagery has the ability to transport a reader from a desk in a classroom or a chair in the library and place them in a world of the poet's own choosing. Effective imagery removes the boundaries
