¶ … physical therapy program past years, improve enhance application current admissions cycle? IMPROVEMENT-- I applied doctor physical therapy program April, 2010. Time I missed a dead line college attached pacts (Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service) I reapplying program.

If you applied to a physical therapy program within the five past years, what have you done to improve upon or enhance your application during the current admissions cycle?

I have not formally applied to a physical therapy program before with a complete application. However, I would like the admissions committee to know that obtaining admission to a PT program has always been my life's goal. I fully intended to apply to a program for admission during my final year of college. However, I missed the scheduled date of April in 2010 to fully submit my credentials to my college's Physical Therapist Centralized Application Service.

I would like to make it clear that missing deadlines is not customary for me, and I have strong and effective time management practices. However, I wanted to ensure that my GRE scores were competitive enough to submit to a program, and I decided that my time would be better spent focusing on studying for this crucial exam. I postponed applying in April 2010 and am applying at present for the upcoming semester.

Since the last application cycle, I have obtained a competitive score on the GRE, and have fulfilled all of the necessary prerequisites of my college for a doctor of physical therapy (DPT). During the current admissions cycle, I strove to work hard in all of my classes, and balance the demands of work, school, and family obligations. I intend to do this in the future, should I be so fortunate enough to be admitted into the DPT program.

While waiting for the admissions cycle to begin once again, I have tried to learn even more about the field of physical therapy today, by talking to currently practicing physical therapists who have completed DPT programs. All of my experiences have confirmed my determination to apply and to obtain an advanced degree in the field. I think that I am well suited to the career of a physical therapist because of my compassion, attention to individual psychology, and because of my passion for improving people's health.

The anecdotes that I have been privileged to hear from physical therapists have confirmed my belief in the tremendous benefits patients can obtain from the services of a PT. Physical therapists have told me how people who felt they would never be able to play tennis or run again are now fully functional, after having physical therapy to recover from devastating sports injuries. PTs also have told me about older people who have become independent once again, with the help of therapy.

Talking to physical therapists has given me a good idea of what a 'day in the life' of a PT resembles. I am more fully prepared for the physically and emotionally taxing aspects of the job.

I have kept more fully abreast of developments in the field by reading trade journals and learned more about the different PT specialties, including orthopedic, geriatric, and pediatric therapies. Developments in the field are happening every day, which is one of the exciting things about becoming a physical therapist.

Now that I have finished my prerequisites, I feel fully prepared to enter a PT program. I think I have ultimately benefited from this time that I have had to reflect upon the question if being a PT is really what I want to do with my life. I have come to the answer that it is.

PT blends my interest with science and my desire to care for others. However, the goal of physical therapy is not merely to care and to treat, it is to enable people to become more empowered to care for themselves, and to enjoy the delights of physical independence. Of course, everyone has different physical limitations and gifts, but a physical therapist helps people in need push themselves to the next level of their capabilities and to maximize their enjoyment of their bodies and lives.
