Organizations are made of humans and thus they can be classified as human systems. Whenever an organization wants to develop and take one step ahead it is necessary that first the human element is satisfied. Organizations can be said to be dynamic structures. If the pieces that make it do not work together in harmony the organization will eventually shatter. For any organization to develop it is quite important that changes be bought about to it on a regular basis, not only in the overall strategies but also operational tactics and other practices. Any changes that are put to place must be in sync with the diversity of the workplace.
Changes in an organization are bought through what is called organizational restructuring. This concept hovers around making changes in the overall design of an organization. These changes involve changes in decision making, management style, the way information flows within the workplace etc. Organizational restructuring helps re deploy talent within the firm. It helps identify where talent can be best utilized and whether or not existing employees are fit for their jobs or not and whether they should be given a new task or not.
Organization restructuring is done in order to gain valuable information. This can be information as to knowing about a job fit and how to assign and align talent within the business in such a way so as to maximize performance. Companies need to make sure that they are as or more competitive in relation to their peers and thus they often have to make changes. If an organization believes that without change they can succeed in such a competitive environment it is highly likely that they will in the future become obsolete. Organizations also restructure to facilitate in reducing cost of operations, improving shareholder confidence in the organization and changing nature of markets. Continuous innovation in technology, work processes and culture are also reasons which cause organizations to restructure. There was a traditional organizational structure which followed a typical 9 to 5 routine and much of the work was monotonous. Nowadays, there are new ways of running the office and new methods of work like outsourcing and telecommuting which make it very necessary to restructure and move away from old methods. Sometimes it so happens that companies need to restructure in order to downsize due to the changing nature of the economy. If mergers and acquisitions take place, then too do companies bring about changes in the way things are done. (Gowing, Kraft & Quick)
