Computer security and its impact on international and domestic business

It is defined as the practice of protecting information from any sort of unauthorized usage, access, disruption, disclosure, perusal, modification, recording, destruction and inspection. It is basically a general term which can easily be used regardless of data's form i.e. physical, electronic and so on. Here in this paper, the main subject matter that will be emphasized regarding the information security is computer security, also known as I.T security. "Information Technology security is basically the protection which is applied to any sort of technological appliance, most often it is in the form of a computing system." (Purpura, 2007).

It is important to note here that a computer can range from a simple desktop to a large supercomputer used by the government. "Computing processes can be performed on any device that has a memory module alongside a processor, in this sense it can even be a calculator." (Williams, 1997). Security specialists related to the field of I.T can be easily found in multinational enterprises as well as the government because of the nature and the importance of information present there.

Security Manager

Usually the mentioned security specialists are governed under the supervision of a security manager who oversees all of their actions. These security experts are responsible for keeping the data and other related information regarding the firm safe from outside attacks. The role of security manager is manifold, it must keep itself up-to-date according to the latest trends in technology and to make or approve plans regarding the security of the system that it is responsible for. Hence if any failure with respect to protection of data occurs then the fault primarily lies on the manager. Let's answer few important questions with respect to I.T security.

Does it affect domestic business?

Again, the answer is yes. Since it is easy to hack into a national system as compared to a foreign entity, therefore Information Technology Security greatly matters at the domestic level as well. "According to many analysts, it is easy for a large firm or the government to be hacked from within its national territory as compared to outside." (Keohane, 1999). Domestic businesses also tend to keep up their protection because they don't want any sort of disaster to destroy their computing data, in this reference not only protection is done but the copying and storing of data to an alternate location is performed as well so that if any disaster occurs which could wipe out the entire system then the backup may provide the necessary information needed to support the organization.
