This presentation highlights the role of indoor air quality in health. Poor indoor air quality has a strongly negative impact on health outcomes. These outcomes can largely be avoided through regular changing of indoor filters, and by maintaining proper air circulation inside the home. Such practices are recommended in order to address the issue of poor indoor air quality.
Quality of Sources
There are a number of good sources on this topic. Several governmental sources play a great role in educating the public about the issue. There are also some good scholarly sources that talk about indoor air quality, and the use of these sources would enhance the presentation. That aaid, however, the government sources that were used are authoritative in nature and provided a high quality of information.
Visuals
Visual aids can augment most presentations. There are some concepts that are better explained verbally, but other concepts benefit from charts, graphs and infrograhics, especially where the representation of statistics is concerned, or depending on the audience as well.
Visuals can be produced a number of different ways. Basic charts and graphs can be produced in Excel from the data that you input. For more complex graphics, there are a number of good software programs. For amateurs, maybe Canva, for professionals maybe more like Adobe Illustrator, but that's beyond what will be in this presentation.
Design, Development and Delivery
The outline is developed around the idea that the most important points need to be presented first, along with the supporting arguments. The strongest points go first because they help structure the argument and convince the reader to buy into the argument in general. The thesis will precede the main point, and then the subsequent points will also further back up the core theeis.
The visual elements are simple. The reason is that this is an argument about health, and air quality. The audience is going to be fairly sober-minded. The audience just wants the facts, without anything too distracting. Font doesn't matter - they aren't designers. And the visuals just have to be basic.
The Audience
The audience is actually the general public. This audience does not necessarily have a depth of knowledge – the message here is that this something you need to know. As such, it is important to inform, and focus. There shouldn't be any cultural taboos. The education level should be sufficient to understand the concepts, but the material will be kept fairly simple anyway, just to be sure that the message gets across.
Approaches
The serious approach has the benefit of conveying that people need to take the message seriously. But the serious approach can also turn people off from the argument. Humor has a lot of appeal – there is a risk that the humor will neuter the message a little bit, but the humor will at least get people to pay attention. So I definitely see that there is a trade-off between using humor to get attention and using seriousness to make sure that the message sinks in a little bit better.
