New teacher induction program design and implementation
Induction Program
The new teacher induction plan was presented on a slide presentation that highlighted the following components of the plan itself.
The proposed professional development agenda discussed in the session addressed many key ideals related to the importance of teacher development and educational proficiency. These principles included the team building, information sharing and learner-based pedagogical approaches that minimize wasted time and provide with a balanced outlook. These principles reflect the overall strategy of the school itself.
This session introduced the problems associated with this schools' induction plan and provided necessary data to help influence the approach of new teachers. New teachers are hungry for ways to fit in to the environment and this induction program allows them to seamlessly enter the professional realm of the school, without the added pressure of students and other distractions.
The Learning Forward Standards for Professional Learning are useful ideas for teacher development in this situation. These standards reflect the ability of the teaching faculty to successfully indoctrinate and condition new teachers into the general framework of that school's environment. These standards are useful guidelines in providing a systematic approach to overcoming the obstacles that traditionally stand in the way of inducting new teachers into a set way of behavior. This induction plan addresses these shortcomings and provides a means to methodically approach this problem.
4. Marzano's nine instructional strategies are all inherently included within this induction plan. These strategies reflect a systematic means of identifying processes that may be useful in acclimating to a new school environment. These principles were included in this plan by making the survey all inclusive and providing feedback and accurate information regarding its results.
5. The use of including a new teacher survey addresses many of the course objectives of this class. By using this method Marzano's strategies are successfully incorporated by finding similarities in other such designed courses. The ability to align these standards with the actual needs of the faculty are expressed through the principal of the school and through the actions and behaviors of the faculty that support such programs.
6. Creating a positive environment for the development session, requires empathy and enthusiasm. The new teachers are confused and wanting to make a great impression. IT is best to let this energy flow and let the new teachers take ownership of their new position and allow them to contribute in ways that only they can. The session itself should be upbeat, open ended and relaxed.
7. The survey that is included in this session mandates that all take part in this development program. By including a task that is comprehensive and ensures participation creates an environment that is more interesting and flowing. This method was used to ensure that all teachers recognize the importance of induction programs.
