Based on what you learned this week, and what you learned about this crime, do you think Holmes is clinically insane? Why or why not?
No, Holmes is not clinically insane. For one, two licensed psychiatrists spend nearly 50 hours with Holmes to evaluate his mental capacity. Both concluded that Holmes was same when he conducted the murders at the Aurora theater. Likewise, much of the evidence indicates that many of the actions that Holmes took prior to committing the murders where those of sane individual. For one, Holmes reviewed the layouts of various movie theaters prior to engaging in the shooting. Here he reviewed potential exit strategies by patrons, the manner in which he would enter the movie theater and how it would disguise his guns and ammunition. Holmes even took Vicodin to reduce the pain he anticipating receiving during the potential shootout with law enforcement. The evidence support that Holmes premediates much of his act as he purchased guns using credit cards his parents could not access. In addition, he used multiple gun shops to lower the suspicion of his purchases (Asokan, 2016).
Do you think his plea of not guilty by plea of insanity is reasonable? Support your answers with the evidence you found.
