Certainly, I was well-aware with the looks I would get as a result of wanting to learn more about mechanics, but this did not stop me from going through with the plan.
From the very first moment when I stepped into the auto shop (I did not call first, as I knew that doing so would likely influence the person on the other end of the line to come up with an excuse with regard to why the shop cannot use a new trainee right now) I noticed that everyone was looking at me as if I were a customer.
