Last reviewed: November 17, 2021 ~4 min read
Abstract

This case study examines the development and implementation of an interdisciplinary treatment plan for a client named Jared struggling with alcohol-related depression. The analysis explores collaborative strategies between counselors, social workers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive mental health services. The study demonstrates how effective interprofessional communication, team functioning, and counseling competencies can be integrated to create successful treatment outcomes for substance abuse and mental health recovery.

Counselors address social concerns in a nation that require some collaboration, which is the best practice strategy. The counselor requires a treatment plan that goes hand in hand with communication and collaboration with an interdisciplinary team in treating a client. This enables the counselors to deliver the best services to their clients and impacts them when coordinating care with social workers, physicians, and other professions. Various strategies are incorporated in the interprofessional collaboration that will be discussed in our case study that will be discussed below. Self-help is another service that can be utilized on Jared by helping him learn about self-care plans that will enhance his well-being and health. By learning to identify practices that will make him go back to his ways of taking alcohol. These can be part of the comprehensive plan.

The mental health services could be utilized as a part of Jared\\\\\\\'s comprehensive plan. These services include intensive outpatient treatment that will provide Jared with opportunities for him to develop communication skills and to participate in experiences that involve socialization (Brooks et al., 2017). Involving family members and the community to help Jared in his recovery process can provide emotional support and encouragement. This comes along with outcomes of improved treatment.

There are various strategies that I would use to facilitate interagency communication and collaboration to coordinate Jared\\\\\\\'s interdisciplinary treatment. These strategies include effective communication; for inter-organizational collaboration to be successful, information sharing should be sustained. It enables sharing of ideas, having open discussions, and relying on each other for knowledge (Keshmiri et al., 2017). Team functioning is another strategy I would use; this encourages trust, support, and encouragement. In our case, the mental treatment collaborators portray the same values; with the help of a team functioning strategy, they can relate well with others who are not in that profession. Collaborative leadership can also help the members overcome biases and work towards shared goals and plans, helping those suffering from mental depression due to the influence of alcohol. Conflict resolution is another strategy; this will help the members keep away from clashes that may affect their relationships.

We have counseling competencies that can guide me in sensitively working with Jared to help him overcome depression due to alcohol. The first will be on human growth and development. This is by identifying how stigma may have affected Jared and how it might have impacted his life (Keshmiri et al., 2017). Acknowledging that he is ready to recover from depression and quit drinking alcohol, hence understanding that it will involve a multi-layered process. Social and cultural diversity is another competency that will help me recognize that religious practices may be important to Jared. This will help him join his friend\\\\\\\'s church as well as the sobriety group in this church. Finally, career and lifestyle development is another competency. Through this, I will help Jared make a career choice that gives him income to contribute to his family.

In conclusion, all professions require strategies that help the interagency to work collaboratively. Through this, they will serve clients, which is successful when the counselors use the counseling competencies. Those with mental depression can have various mental health services to help them overcome their challenges.
