Interest in Being a Law Student

Last reviewed: December 11, 2003 ~4 min read

¶ … attend the University of Hong Kong Law School. I am applying for admission to the University of Hong Kong Law School for a number of reasons. First, I feel the law school at the University of Hong Kong is one of the best law schools in the world, and I would feel very privileged to attend it. In addition, during my education and employment in the United States, I have worked with law offices in California and in Hong Kong in a variety of areas, so I feel I have the necessary background that will make me successful in the school. Finally, I was born in Hong Kong, and my family immigrated to the United States when I was 14. I would like to continue my education in my homeland, and work in international law when I complete my degree.

My background includes schooling in the United States, and work in the computer industry. I graduated in December 2003 with a double major in Mathematics and Computer Science from you fill in University. I feel these majors will help me in my law career for a number of reasons. I can focus in international law especially as it pertains to both business and science, and I have an analytical mind, which will help me with the many facets of information a law degree requires. I have always had an interest in the law, and I feel I would make a good international lawyer because of my bicultural background, and my understanding of business dynamics in both the United States and Hong Kong.

I am a good student, and I have excellent study habits, which will help me in my graduate law studies. I am also quite familiar with Hong Kong and the surrounding area, so I will not suffer from "culture shock" or homesickness attending a school far away from my family. Eventually, I would like to practice law in Hong Kong, and this is another reason I would be very happy to attend the university.

I feel your course of study meets my needs for a variety of reasons. Since I would like to someday practice in Hong Kong, your coursework in Hong Kong law would be a benefit to my long-term career goals. I also share many of your admissions requirement, including, as I have noted, analytical and critical thinking, and a sound understanding of English oral and written language skills. My command of English has grown along with my education in the United States, and I feel I am well prepared for your admissions requirements. In addition, I have an intense interest in the law, which is one reason I sought out law firms in California and Hong Kong to work with during my college years in the United States. I always hoped to return home and complete my education at the University of Hong Kong, and I have been attempting to prepare for that possibility as long as possible. I feel my educational and career goals all focus on the University of Hong Kong, which is another compelling reason why I hope to attend the university.
