When most people think of Johnson & Johnson, they will often associate it with the various pharmaceutical related businesses. This is a dramatic reduction in the size of the company from what it once was a few years ago. The reasons why is from globalization and bureaucracy forcing the company to seek out ways to reduce their underlying costs. To fully understand how this is taking place requires looking at: the use of the Internet for internal operations and the way this could decrease the company's costs. Together, these different elements will highlight how Johnson & Johnson can transform itself to deal with these new realities. (Singer)

Johnson & Johnson is using the Internet for mainly promoting themselves to customers. In the case of internal usage, the firm is taking this protocol and they are using it to improve communication inside the organization. What makes this so prestigious; is the firm has been continually focusing on using this to help everyone understand the dangers in the workplace. This is when managers were able to create a protocol that became a part of every manufacturing facility. Over the course of time, this allowed everyone to focus on achieving the same kind of organizational objectives. This is the point that this has changed the operating environment. In what way could operational costs decrease if the company's customers interacted with it through the internet?

The way that operational costs could decrease, is Johnson & Johnson should focus on using the Internet as way to directly connect with employees around the globe. This will take place, using a central web site that serves as a location where: employees could log into and stay informed about a host of company related issues / events. At the same time, this protocol can be utilized to have interactive staff meetings via web cast. This would improve the ability of the company to communicate with each other and it will reduce costs. As executives, do not have to travel to as many locations to deal with certain issues. Instead, they can stay more centralized and interact with everyone online (to address any problems in real time). This prevents the company from losing money by not letting these kinds of issues sit to become larger. ("J&J Safety") (Singer)
