¶ … Kean University Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program.

My experience in the healthcare field has shaped my idea of exactly the career I wish to pursue. Indeed, my goal and my dream today is to achieve a BSN from your excellent university. Why do I wish to obtain a BSN? I am fully cognizant of the role of a Registered Nurse plays in a hospital setting because I had the privilege and the honor of working side by side with professional nurses in an emergency ward for two years. I saw firsthand the skills the RNs and LPNs and the physicians demonstrated as they provided excellent care for the sick and injured patients we received.

When it comes to the daily work that nurses do in a hospital emergency environment, I have been very impressed by their compassion, their attitude towards work and patients, and their ethical approach to healthcare. The emergency room nurses' energy, skillfulness and knowledge lifted my spirits and inspired me when patients arrived in the emergency unit desperately clinging to life. And notwithstanding the near-death situations the nurses were faced with daily, they went about their life-saving responsibilities with cool heads and caring hearts.

Sometimes in the emergency room it seemed that health-related crises seemed to be exploding all around our staff. I learned a great deal about nursing by working with, taking instructions from, and simply witnessing the effort that RNs put forward to help people.

A great deal of hard work and dedication is required of an RN in today's medical field, and the challenges a nurse faces daily and hourly fit my motivated personality perfectly. In each and every job I have had I became known as a hard worker, a dedicated person who comes early to work and never shies away from difficult decisions.

My own personal professional experience in the healthcare field gives me the confidence to know that indeed I belong in this profession. To wit, as part of my previous routine in a hospital environment, I have: a) recorded important medical information (including symptoms); b) taken vital signs; c) prepared rooms and sterilized instruments; d) recorded and reported patient symptoms to doctors and nurses; e) asked questions and conducted outside research to more fully inform myself vis-a-vis the emerging and existing strategies nurses must adhere to; and f) monitored all aspects of patient care, including diet and physical activity.

I believe I have chosen the exact correct time in my life to attend your university because I have many valuable life experiences behind me. Moreover, I know I am intelligent, capable, and confident in my approach to everything I do that is meaningful to others.

Passion is a word that is perhaps overused in today's society, but I am not at all reluctant to explain that I have a passion to bring healing to others who are struggling or suffering, and I am passionate about being a helpful, beneficial person in any and all circumstances I may encounter.
