LA Internship Program Throughout the course of the program, I have gained great insight into the technical, cultural, and academic aspects of entertainment, media, and production. This insight, coupled with my experience, has helped me to better understand the demands of production, and has allowed me to understand the planning that is needed to successfully complete projects.
The courses I have taken, and am currently taking, have contributed to my academic success, and have afforded me with the experience and knowledge necessary to continue to pursue a career in electronic media and production. Furthermore, I believe the LA internship program will further strengthen my development and understanding of production by allowing me to see how the process is utilized outside an academic environment.
Presently, I am enrolled in a number of classes including Script Writing, Videography, Media Arts II, and Hip Hop: A Race, Gender, and Class Perspective. Script Writing, Videography, and Media Arts II, specifically, have allowed me to gain an in-depth understanding of media productions from a technical, creative, and historical perspective. My Script Writing course has provided me greater insight into pre-production preparation. I have learned that regardless of the end result, whether film, commercial, or television program, every production needs to be planned in great detail.
Script Writing has forced me to think critically about what is going to be shot, how it can be interpreted for film/television/electronic media, and how sequences can be planned via storyboards. These skills are especially important when collaborating with others, or when a film proposal must be created.
Videography, on the other hand, has allowed me to better understand the technical aspects of production, which has allowed me to understand how lighting, sound recording, and filming come together to create sounds and images, whereas editing allows a story to be created from those sound images. Lastly, Media Arts II, not only provided me great insight into the development of film and video, but also allowed me to understand the artistic and aesthetic aspects and theoretical perspectives of film and video production.
While Script Writing, Videography, and Media Arts II have developed my technical and theoretical knowledge of film and television, Hip Hop: A Race, Gender, and Class Perspective has allowed me to further examine the genre, its themes, and its history. While this course piqued my interest because of its focus on hip hop, as my studies progressed, I was able to see the relationship between entertainment and video production, which I wish to explore further in the future.
One of the most important aspects of this class was analyzing hip hop lyrics and demonstrating how these lyrics could be interpreted. Understanding how things can be interpreted is especially important in the realm of art as the artist, or director, determines what he or she wants the audience to see and how he or she wants them to see it.
Currently, I am seeking to leverage my interest in music and my knowledge and experience in film production to secure an internship that would allow me to work on music videos, commercial productions, digital entertainment, and live events productions. I believe that these types of internship opportunities would also allow me to strengthen my existing skills in editing, cinematography, and pre and post production, as well as allow me to observe how professionals in the real world operate. I am also interested in exploring documentary and nonfiction production.
In recent years, I have noticed that major recording artists have achieved success not only at the top of the charts, but also at the box office by providing their fans and audience insight into their music and their inspirations. Although I have not had much experience in video production on a professional level, I have had the opportunity to shoot short films and music video. My strengths in videography lie in scene composition and set up.
I enjoy translating my vision onto the screen and I have been blessed with the opportunity to showcase my artistic vision through this program and my studies. In the future, I hope to continue to combine my skills as a videographer, editor, screenwriter, and.
