Traffic Homicide
What use to be referred to as a traffic accident investigation is giving way to the more modern terminology of vehicle crash investigation. But even with the name change the skills needed are still the same. Most departments have specific traffic investigative units or traffic homicide investigators. These specially trained units are used to investigate serious or fatal car crashes. Their specialized training often deals with accessing the structural damage to a vehicle or other items, taking measurements and drag factors in order to determine speed, movement, and points of collision for traffic incident reconstruction (Byrd, 2000).
Most police department's crash investigation requirements have developed into more than report writing and evidence gathering. There is a steady demand for more in-depth crash investigation in order to answer the age old question of who was at fault. This requires police departments to have personnel with expertise in the higher levels of crash investigation. There are courses available for traffic homicide investigators in order to gain crash investigation training and makes them proficient in gathering evidence at the scene, measuring, and scale diagramming and estimating minimum speed from skid marks (Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation, n.d.).
Training programs for traffic homicide investigators usually include the following areas: speed estimates from kinetic energy, skid marks, scuffmarks and airborne situations, vehicle dynamics and motion, time, distance and motion equations, conservation of momentum calculations, diagramming vehicle damage, vehicle damage analysis explaining thrust, center of mass, overlap and collapse, vehicle lamp examination, tire damage evaluation, advanced photography and video techniques and vector sum analysis (Advanced Traffic Crash Investigation, n.d.).
All of these areas are important in order for an investigator to be successful in traffic homicide investigations.

Law Enforcement Patrolling Kansas City Gun Experiment and the Kerner Commission Report The Kansas City Gun Experiment of 1992 and 1993 illustrates a police strategy that was responsive to the fact that a particular area was responsible for a very high rate of firearm related homicides (University of Maryland; University of Texas, 2012). The intensification of police patrols represents a hybridization of the traditional "law enforcement" and "crime fighting" police functions. The
Many times, police officers are attacked or the prisoners themselves are injured during this booking process. The deaths and injuries, specifically of prisoners belonging to ethnic minorities, have triggered conflicts between the police and the community in recent years. Studies showed that the separation of the arresting officer and the suspect appeared to lessen the rate of reoccurrence. The studies recommended an evaluation of procedures and reinforcement (Community Relations
Undocumented Immigrants in Gainesville The city of Gainesville has a population of about 54,000 and of these, approximately 3,200 are illegal aliens. The law enforcement community in this city is charged with protecting these undocumented aliens on the one hand and enforcing illegal immigrant laws on the other. To the extent that undocumented residents are afraid that the police will enforce the latter may be the extent to which they are
Crimes in the U.S. Introduction Contrary to US civil law, the nation’s criminal law represents a legal system which deals with penalizing those who perpetrate criminal offenses. Among the many criminal laws of the nation is its 1994 Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act or, simply, crime bill. The bill’s enactment was, in a number of ways, characteristic of the tough-on-criminals bipartisan campaign of the latter part of the past century.
During the 1960's and 1970's, violent contact with the police, resulting in force occurred during anti-war, labor and civil rights demonstrations, during a politically tumultuous time. It is safe to conclude that excessive force was used during these clashes. Deaths and injuries were the results of political clashes at the Republican Convention in Chicago, during campus riots held at several universities, during political demonstrations held in public places and in
