Jobs openly based his iMac's advertising on image, rather than function, an unheard-of focus in the computer industry. He used a $100-million dollar a-year advertising campaign that mimicked example of Nike that communicated the ethos of what Nikes as a brand represented -- youth and athleticism, rather than technical aspect of the shoes. In fact, log onto Apple's corporate website today at http://www.apple.com / and be granted with a vision, not of a computer, but of the phrase "Tiger Unleashed." The cool, silver lettering and boxed design of the site are quite similar to Nike's own website at Niketown.com, which promotes the image of beauty and athletes bodies rather than its product.
