Entrepreneurial Leadership

The strengths and potential weaknesses of entrepreneurial leadership include creativity, thinking "outside the box," and an attitude of self-employment and motivation. An entrepreneurial leader takes the initiative and is not afraid of bold, creative solutions to problems. This enthusiasm trickles down to employees and helps them become more creative and productive, as well. Entrepreneurial leaders are good team-builders, and tend to put the customer first, which is always a positive step for a company.

The potential weaknesses of this type of leadership include the leader becoming bored if they are not challenged effectively, and perhaps leaving the company if they are not recognized and rewarded for their efforts. Entrepreneurial leaders also take more risks, and they are not afraid to fail, so they could be more of a liability to certain departments and companies. In addition, any entrepreneurial leader may come up with new, innovative ideas on their own and form their own, competing company, which could certainly be a weakness to the existing company.

The major asset of an entrepreneur is their ability to be innovative and creative, and try new ways of doing things. This is vital for any organization that wants to stay competitive in the marketplace. In addition, they create positive change, are usually team- and customer-oriented, and are generally assets to the business. They can take risks, and sometimes their ideas will fail, but they are not afraid to fail, which also makes them an asset to the company. A company that is afraid of failure may never take the risks it needs to take to become truly great. An entrepreneurial leader will help a business grow because of their fresh, new ideas and their creativity. The positive aspects of an entrepreneurial leader far outweigh the weaknesses they may have, and most businesses would do well to hire these types of leaders.
