In the process of providing leadership and governance, an organization's senior leaders or executive team are required to absolutely comply with ethical principles and paths to produce results. This requirement is an essential part of governance that every leadership segment should have regardless of its level within the organization. In most cases, the ethical discipline or pathway in leadership and governance is referred to as noble purpose that includes constant ambition, passion, honesty, ethical culture and succession, and independent participation. Throughout the years, noble purpose has remained to be an integral part of leadership and governance because of its link to provision of service and achievement of results.
An organization's vision, mission, strategies, objectives, and values are supported by its leadership and governance that should be based on noble purpose (ethical discipline) to guarantee effective performance. Noble purpose has a huge impact on the organization's financial responsibility and employee commitment that determine its performance. Within the health care sector, it's the core of health care delivery and the reason for the existence of health care organizations (Gilbert, 2007, p. 66). The successes or failures of many organizations have in the recent past been determined by the commitment of their leadership to noble purpose, especially with the daily pressures to draw focus away from it.
The other critical aspect of noble purpose is that it promotes and strengthens organizational integrity and focuses on the individual characteristics of an ethical leader. Together with passion, constant ambition, and honesty, noble purpose is the foundation that drives ethical leadership in an organization. They provide the basis with which an environment of personal integrity, ethical culture, and infrastructure are established and can thrive within an organization in its quest to achieve its goals.
Patient-focused Care and Understanding Processes, Outcomes, and Costs:
The value of the health care sector and health care organizations is determined by the benefits provided to the patient, the organization, and the staff. The process of determining benefits is defined by measures that are associated with patient safety and explanations of the process of care. Patient-focused care is the primary means with which the value of health care is achieved because the approach not only benefits the patient but it also benefits the organization and its staff. This approach has been adopted as an alternative to the traditional task- or treatment-focused approach. The approach involves the incorporation of the patient and his/her family into the treatment process and tools, enhanced communication, explanations, and information for intelligent decision making.
It has proven to be the most efficient and cost-effective approach since the patient's environment and health conditions are evaluated on a continual basis (Dlugacz, 2010, p. 42). Therefore, the health care provider usually addresses issues beyond the patient's medical condition that may have an impact on the patient's well-being. The most important element in a patient-focused environment and care is effective communication between the caregiver, the patient, and his/her family.
