Leadership qualities in Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, and Preston Tucker
Leadership Qualities, Entrepreneurship, and Personality
No defined instructions, formulae, or recipes can be used to train or make someone a leader. However, qualities and characteristics can be used in defining whether someone is an effective leader or not. These values include integrity, perseverance, and dependability (DuBrin, 2012). Without these qualities, one cannot guide, lead or direct a team or a company successfully. In fact, dependability is the single most important attribute that makes one a leader. A leader is someone who can handle numerous responsibilities successfully with the proper alignment of team roles. In such a case, the followers will depend on you to cater for these responsibilities. In some cases, a leader is forced to make hard decisions; but, it is the leader\'s responsibility to make these decisions (Northouse, 2013). If others can depend on a person to get them through not only the good times but also the rough one, this makes the individual a great leader. Integrity also makes one a leader. A person who possesses firm principles can make firm decisions and do what he/she thinks is the best. A person who has integrity is seen as reliable, honest, trustworthy, honorable and loyal. Anyone who possesses these characteristics qualifies to be a leader (Northouse, 2013). It is not easy for one to be a leader. While the actions of a leader are often scrutinized whenever things fall apart, anything that remains throughout the worst times is their leadership traits. Employees look up to these same traits to work hard for and respect. This explains why it is not easy for one to be a leader and those who desire to be leaders must work hard to gain these great traits. People who exhibit these traits make up the best leaders and end up being hugely successful.
Question 2)
Steve Jobs and Bill Gates are some of the most prominent world leaders who led major changes regarding leading organizations. Just as Gates and Jobs led their organizations to success, Preston Tucker is a star in a fictionalized movie, who also pioneered success in his company. The three are seen as charismatic leaders with an unconventional thought. Creativity is present in their leadership styles, but Gates insist on the concept of teamwork while Tucker and Jobs are manipulative, authoritative and are always in charge (Northouse, 2013). Although Tucker\'s visionary leadership style is what makes him a great leader, he made poor management decisions that led to his downfall. We have read that the ability to make decisions, in good and tough times, is what makes one a great leader.
