• CWY has an influential patron (the Governor General of Canada since March 2012), a strong management team as well as a highly effective and dedicated board of directors.
Weaknesses (internal)
• CWY continues to rely on unpredictable levels of public donations for funding.
• Cross-cultural differences between CWY's leadership team and partner organizations in other countries.
• Any political scandals involving CWY's patron could damage the organization's reputation.
Opportunities (external)
• Expand the indigenous youth programs and partnerships throughout North America.
• Develop a program model-based CWY's model that can be readily implemented in the countries of Oceania where it currently lacks a presence.
• Develop a training program for mentors participating in its mentorship program.
Threats (externl)
• Downturns in the Canadian economy could harm the organization's funding.
• There is a potential for political unrest in partner organization countries abroad that could adversely affect collaborative efforts.

2. Describe plans for conducting an environmental scan.
a. Identify and describe internal conditions that might impact the implementation of the strategic plan. The cross-cultural differences that exist between CWY's leadership team and their counterparts in other countries can be addressed through training initiatives drawing on resources such as Geert Hofstede's cultural dimensions and information concerning the respective values, attitudes and manners that prevail in partner countries (Upadhyay, 2013). Developing reliable and sustainable funding for CWY will be more challenging to resolve, and the organization should seek charitable remainder trusts and gift annuity donors based on its nonprofit...
Address how you would minimize the impact of those conditions. Organizational resources are by definition scarce, so it will be vitally important for CWY to maximize the
value of its donations and contributions by eliminating waste and administrative redundancies wherever possible. Soliciting charitable remainder trusts and gift annuities will also minimize the impact of CWY's current funding limitations. Finally, it will also be important for the leadership team to receive refresher training as needed and to ensure that new members of the team receive the full complement of cross-cultural training.
c. Identify and describe external conditions or competitors that might impact the implementation of the strategic plan. There are numerous other youth-oriented organizations in Canada that compete for donations and volunteers with CWY.
i. Address how you would minimize the impact of those conditions. Solicit annuity donors to provide reliable and sustainable long-term funding for the organization.
ii. Consider how you might plan to work with competitors to meet the needs of your targeted agency, organization, or community. CWY could establish partnerships with several of the other youth-oriented organizations in Canada to meet its needs and the needs of its
stakeholders, including the National Youth in Care Network, Canada25, Canadian Coalition for the Rights of
Children, the Child Welfare League of Canada, the Christian Service Brigade and the Company of Young Canadians.
3. Identify and describe at least three strengths of the agency, organization, or community.
a. State why each item on the list is a strength.
• The organization has a proven 40-year track record of success in working with youth groups. This item is a strength because it demonstrates that CWY has been effective in managing its resources and its commitment to youth around the world.
• CWY has developed an extensive network of international partnerships. At present, CWY has international partners in
Africa,
Asia, Eastern Europe, and Latin America as well as domestic partnerships with several youth-oriented organizations. An extensive network of international partnerships is a strength because CWY has learned from these partnerships and has applied lessons learned in meaningful ways to its domestic and international initiatives.
• CWY has an influential patron (the Governor General of Canada since March 2012), a strong management team as well as a highly effective and dedicated board of directors. The organization's leadership team provides cross-disciplinary expertise and experience that can be brought to
bear on problems and opportunities.
b. State how you plan to utilize each strength to positively the impact the development or implementation of the strategic plan. The combined talents and skills of CWY's leadership team can positively impact the ability of…
