Art history
Unlike Impressionism, German Expressionism "is not a name for a definite group of people with a common artistic direction. Rather, it is a term used to indicate a permanent tendency in art - particularly during the period 1910-20," which was sub-divided into Die Brucke and the Blaue Reiter. (Expressionism)
The leading expressionists of the Die Brucke group (founded in 1905) reflected intense emotions thereby leaving greater impact on the human psychology with short and wild brushwork, dazzling colors, feeling of subjugation, straight, well defined lines and blatant, vehement combination of colors with the entire works by German artists wrapped in palpable simplicity and elegance (Expressionism).
Apart from Max Beckman, James Ensor, Emil Nolde, Chaim Soutine and Kirchner, the marvelous painter that received inspiration from Van Gogh's style of painting and left the strongest impression of his expression on German paintings was Edward Munch (1863-1944) (Expressionism). The Norwegian painter is considered to be one of the founder members of the Expressionism due to his considerable role both as a German expressionist and as a graphic designer, whose graphical form of substantial works has taken an edge over his paintings. Fundamental thesis revolved around the universally accepted emotions of immense force and originality related to love and death (Expressionism).
In conclusion, Edward Munch, the founder of the Expressionist Movement made a sizeable contribution to the absolutely intricate and highly sentimental world of art and expression (Edward). The remaining half of his successful painting career saw a shift from the Symbolism to closer-to-reality themes complimenting the existence of picturesque beauty of nature, sun, earth, landscapes, moon and air with simple lines and daring strokes full of color. (Edward)
