Let it Pour

¶ … Pour Faith Community Hospital, is a not for profit hospital facing problems that danger its existence. They have a mission statement which is being interpreted by people according to their own beliefs and likes. The only common goal between the stake holders at the Faith Community Hospital's board is the survival of the hospital. There have been negative reviews regarding hospitals in general in the print media due to which the patient turn up at Faith Community Hospital has decreased considerably.

Media has a great impact on the public and if they give a negative review to any service or product, the organization faces a virtual boycott of its services or product. This decrease in the number of patients coming to Faith Community Hospital has reduced the revenue, thus causing it to eventually shut down. Moreover there are differing views and actions taken by doctors with patients who cannot afford to receive medical treatment. Many doctors in the hospital are extending services free of cost to these patients.

The pharmacist is accepting payments in installments. They believe that they should do anything and everything to help others. Others realize that providing services for free will affect the income of the hospital and cause it to shut down. They therefore refuse to extend any services to such patients. Many patients coming to Faith Community Hospital feel that certain medical services are against their beliefs and thus refuse to accept them.

Apart from the patients, there are some staff members who also feel that to provide certain services are ethically wrong and contrary to their beliefs. This caused the hospital to run into trouble with the Child Protective Services who are planning to file charges against them for not providing services. People at the hospital are acting on their free will and many acted on "Do Not Resuscitate" directives even when they were not issued.

THE SOLUTION AND RATIONALE Faith Community Hospital needs to bring awareness about the actual interpretation of their mission statement. This is important so that people do not start making their own interpretations thus causing problems to the survival of the hospital. Next, it is imperative for the hospital to devise proper policies and regulations for the betterment of the people. Euthanasia should be left for the government to decide whether to declare it legal or illegal.

Only when declared legal by the government, the people should be allowed to make use of it. The management should make use of the media to portray a positive impression on the general public. They should run advertisement campaigns where the mission statement of the hospital is increased and figures from the hospital should be brought in front.

This would serve the purpose of clarifying to the public that all hospitals are not the same and the quality of healthcare at Faith Community Hospital is far superior to the ones that media is often giving negative impressions.
