¶ … local and neighbor venues is of interest to both my family and me. In particular cultural theaters are very interesting, particularly for the overall awareness they provide. Last month my family and I attended the Harold Washington Cultural Center in Bronzeville. The American Association of Theaters estimates that there are approximately 600 million visits to local U.S. theaters annually. AAM spokesman Hall says that while that number is high, it's been relatively flat in the last few years, and theaters are thinking about ways to increase visitor ship. Some of these sprawling complexes have the look and feel of theme parks. Like children's museums, they tend to feature hands-on aspects such as 3-D imaging and interactive seating geared to kids and their families. The Harold Washington Cultural Center Washington DC is estimated to receive approximately 5.8 million...

The overall ambiance was truly a spectacle to behold. The halls were all full of kids of all ages with families and school field trips, which created a fun environment in which to learn. The displays were varied and had different amounts of interactivity, were well-lit and clearly deeply cleaned. What was very incredible about the overall experience was the price. The visit itself was very low cost which was very encouraging to all patrons in attendance. Seats are comfortable and accessible from all perspectives. The performance facility itself is very nice and has plenty of seating. The overall ambiance was truly a spectacle to behold. The HWCC provides excellent plays, musicals and concerts which have all been positively reviewed by critics. Once inside my family and I completely forgot all about the ordeal and overall hassle at the box office.

One negative aspect that I experienced in the theater is the overall customer service. The Box office opens an hour before an event and extremely unorganized. Both my family and I paid cash and I didn't get a ticket or receipt. In addition, there was only one line for will call and ticket purchases. The line is outside and always long. This was particular troublesome as the weather was extremely humid, causing patrons to feel uncomfortable. A separate will call would have made the line go much quicker, especially since you only have one hour to get your tickets and find a seat.

Both my family and I had the opportunity to view one of my favorite movies "Imitation of Life" and was very pleased with the overall production. The vision of the director to bring this 1959 film to the stage (original movie was in 1934 and based from the book with the same title) was to say the least a very good adaptation. The musical score, the nine piece live band, set design, choreography, casting, costume design and well written play made for a good evening at the theater. I enjoyed all the actors, dancers and singers, but especially enjoy watching the actresses who played Bea Pullman and Delilah Johnson. It was a nice touch for the director to introduce the behind the scene staff afterwards. When you see a production like this you know it takes a full team to make it happen
