Local Ecology My local ecosystem can be characterized as high desert. The environment is thus characterized by both aridity and altitude. There is a relatively low amount of rainfall, and a lot of sunshine. The temperature swings between night and day are substantial, as much as 30-40 degrees. As a result, the flora consists of desert plants like chamiso, pinon trees, juniper and ample sage. Urban areas may have trees planted, but they are relatively sparse except around water sources. The local fauna include coyotes, rabbits, small birds, and the occasional bird of prey. The mountains are at present covered in a thin layer of snow, but the ground at lower elevations is bare. Because the snowfall sticks on the mountains there are more trees there, until the elevation gets too high...

Right now, the arroyos are bare but in spring they can contain water as the winter snows melt from the mountains.
Human activity in my area is minimal compared with most parts of the United States. There is very little industry here and as a result of that only roads and settlements affect the ecosystem. The skies are bright and blue and there is no shortage of stars at night. Human activities here have largely focused on water, such as taking water from the ground and using some natural water sources for limited agriculture. Roads cut off pathways for larger animals like deer, whose migration patterns are affected. In general, though there are not that many humans in this area, it is one of the more sparsely-populated areas of the U.S. As a result, human activity has not had a significant impact on the ecosystem outside of settlements. In settlement areas, of course, the…

Even with that, the large number of people in Hampton Roads is apparently stressing the area through a series of methods, such as constructing wherever they find place to do so (Koebel). In contrast to most people in Virginia Beach that are reluctant to care for the environment, there are some who actually do anything they can to preserve the area's surroundings. Although land is becoming more and more expensive

Local Ecosystem The last remaining pieces of what used to be the American wilderness are slowly but surely being erased from the country's landscape. In the very few remaining natural and unaltered locations, many wild animals live which have been hunted to near-extinction in other parts of the country. In the not so long ago time, in the time before settlement from American pioneers, the entire nation was a vast wilderness.

Ecology It is important for people to have an environmental awareness that supports both the ecology's survival and the individual. The purpose of this essay is to describe my local ecology and environment by explaining the specific factors that distinguish these surroundings. This essay will describe my home state of Florida in terms of its ecology and demonstrate some of the important factors that comprise this natural system. In this essay

Ecosystems are changed by both biotic and abiotic factors. Biotic factors are all living things or their materials that directly or indirectly affect an organism in its environment. Biotic factors include organisms, their presence or parts, their interaction with the ecosystem, or their wastes. Additionally, parasitism, disease, and predation are considered biotic factors. Abiotic factors are factors of a non-living physical and chemical nature that affect the ability of organisms

Ecosystem Structure, Function and Change Lake Tahoe is located in Sierra Nevada and is a freshwater lake over 1600 feet deep and one of the largest lakes in America. The lake is at the heart of a comprehensive ecosystem and home to a range of native species and contains a rich aquatic life. For example, the lake is home to redside dace, suckers and chub. Oil Spill Damage The effects of oil spills have had lasting effects on the marine and terrestrial ecosystems that affect the respiratory, food chain, and reproductive systems of marine and terrestrial wildlife for decades. "Human activity has depleted marine species 90%, seagrass and wetland habitat 65%, and degraded water quality 10-1,000 fold" (Narisimha). A major portion of these statistics has been due to oil spills. It has been difficult for scientists
