Long-Term Goals? My Short-Term Goals Are to

¶ … long-Term goals? My short-term goals are to make the most out of my academic talents and abilities and fulfilling the core values of Respect, Compassion, Excellence, Justice, and Stewardship. The Medical focus Program will be an opportunity for me to begin specializing in science and healthcare-related subjects and to get to know other students who share my academic and career interests. I look forward to being able to the first-hand experience of volunteering in the healthcare professions so that I can interact with patients and experienced healthcare professionals.

I also look forward to being as creative as possible, such as in the way that I duplicated several classic scientific experiments in my school science fairs. My long-term goal is to become an orthodontist. I have had this goal since I was six years old, when I had an accident that broke some of my teeth and required orthodontic care.

My exposure to the field as a patient interested me in both the scientific aspects of dentistry and oral healthcare in general and also in the human element of helping people feel better about themselves. Because orthodontists typically treat patients for several years or more, they get to know them very well and they have the opportunity to become a trusted friend and confident to young patients as they mature and to get to know their parents and families as well.

I expect that it will be a challenging and rewarding career on both levels. How does enrollment in the Medical Focus Program meet these goals? The Medical Focus Program meets my short-term goals because it is an academically challenging environment that will allow me to concentrate on the science-related classes that I already know I want to study the most.

I hope that the program will meet my long-term goals by preparing me to enter college and medical or dental school and that it will also provide practical opportunities for me to develop my natural abilities that I believe will make me a good orthodontist, such as my steady hands and my ability to take on even complicated and difficult projects and find ways to accomplish them.
