Situation Analysis:

In the year 2010, University of California Irvine Health devised a strategic 5-year plan that marked the culmination of efforts by the senior management of the Irvine Medical Center, University of California surgeons and physicians, and School of Medicine (SOM). The document plays the role of an infrastructure for assuring that the tripartite structure progresses efficiently, expediently, and collaboratively. The leadership team of the Irvine Medical Center organized multidisciplinary sessions of planning for developing its 2010 annual targets for ensuring continuous progress with milestones of the strategic plan (Nursing Strategic Plan Summary). Following a comprehensive assessment of the previous year's performance during the process of planning, senior managers advocated goals that were categorized into five pillars or groups: quality, people, service, growth, and finance. Performance, market analysis, and demographics, with respect to the organization against external and internal benchmarks were integrated into the strategic plan for the year 2010-11. The leaders identified and delegated institutional goals to SOM and Hospital leaders, who functioned as the initiative champions, in-charge of coming up with tactics for ensuring successful accomplishment of the objectives of University of California, Irvine Health. Apart from the aforementioned all-encompassing strategies, University surgeons and physicians, Irvine Medical Center, and the SOM applied this strategic plan as a guideline for ensuring that all the operational goals of the organization were in line with the vision, strategic plan, and mission of University of California, Irvine Healthcare (Nursing Strategic Plan Summary).
