Macy's Flower Show Was First

Macy's Flower Show was first put together in 1947 and was presented at the Union Square in San Francisco, California. Since 1947, Union Square has had a flower show each year. By 1953, the show had expanded to Herald Square in New York City. By 1966, the show was discontinued at Herald Square because of the rising cost in maintaining cut flowers, but the show returned to Herald Square in 1974. Throughout the years, the show has hosted many other important events. For example, in 1989 and 1990, the show hosted the Daytime Emmy nominations.

From 1991 to 1994, the Today Show did a live broadcast from the Macy's Flower Show. This year the show was presented in Chicago, Minneapolis and Philadelphia, in addition to traditional locations in San Francisco and New York City. In addition to offering spectacular flower-based exhibits and events each year, sponsors and participants of Macy's Flower Show make many donations. For example, this year at Macy's Chicago show, Da Mayor attended the show to accept a donation of 24 "Purple Prince" Crabtree's, which were been donated to city.

The trees would be planted in community gardens throughout Chicago by Neighborspace. Back in 1996, the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park needed to be repaired. At the time, the building was 118-years-old and was one of the oldest greenhouse buildings in the United States. It had not been repaired for years and was falling apart. Groups and conservatory lovers were attempting to raise money for repairs, because the building had been so badly damaged that the conservatory had to be closed over the winter.

Repairs were estimated to cost about $12 million. Tickets cost $50 and included two passes to the garden show, admission to the Japanese Tea Garden and more. Macy's Flower Show has been ongoing annually for over 60 years. Many special events and charitable events are held during and in conjunction with the show.

Whether organizations are raising money related things, such as the Conservatory of Flowers in Golden Gate Park, or organizations are making donations to local areas throughout the cities involved in the show, Macy's Flower Show definitely has a big impact on local areas each year. For many visitors to the shows from state-to-state, Macy's offers a gorgeous environment for shoppers to experience a gigantic indoor and artistic shopping environment, free of charge.

Many charitable events cost visitors donations ranging from $5 up to $300, depending on what the donation is for, but the events offer a great deal of enjoyment for families each year and gives local area people something fun to do. The shows usually go on for a few days in major U.S. cities and start at the end of March and goes through mid-April. Visitors to the shows can walk through.
