Nursing philosophy: preventative care, cultural competence, and professional leadership

Magnanimous Philosophy of Nursing

I believe that nursing is the prudent care of individuals who are in need of assistance. I believe that this sort of care is both preventative as well as curative. Nursing is helping people to restore their bodies, minds, and souls to the states in which they should be. Additionally, nursing is helping people to maintain their bodies, minds and souls in the proper salutary state in which they should be.

There is an intrinsic relationship between the practice of nursing and clients, their health, and the environment. Quite simply, I adhere to the notion that all of these things are interrelated. Clients are those in need of nursing, and health is defined as the well being of one's mind, body and soul. The environment is where the clients are or exist.

I believe that the profession of nursing exists for the benefits of others. In this respect nursing is a selfless profession which is predicated on the well being of others. Achieving this goal typically involves the wellness of care practitioners, however, which should not be taken for granted. Nursing fulfills a critical function in society today and is an integral part of its collective wellness.

The collaborative efforts of nurses and other health care professions is critical to fulfilling the function of nurses, as well as to fulfilling the function of those additional professions. Nurses need to work with physicians, surgeons, and various health care specialists in order to effect the type of treatment that is necessary to maintain the salutary state of the population.

The most fundamental inspiration from the past that has impacted my decision to make a career from the profession of nursing is the example of Florence Nightingale. She was able to do so much for the profession of nursing and to help modernize it. Her example was extremely inspiring to me, and helps me to believe that I can have a considerable impact on this profession as well.

My professional goals are to refine the sort of care that is administered by nurses to patients. Specifically, I hope to achieve this effect by incorporating cultural mores into the practice of nursing. I hope to do so by utilizing cultural traditions that are appropriate to particular patients in administering care to them, so that such care is individually tailored.

The roles and responsibilities required to advance the profession of nursing involve leadership. Nurses must become leaders in order to help this profession progress. Already, certain advanced practice nurses are able to take on many of the responsibilities of physicians. This trend must continue so that nurses can act as leaders and improve healthcare.
