TSA Security and Department of Homeland Security

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) carried out an internal investigation and found out that several security failures have happened in most nations’ busiest airports. The breaches in question have allowed investigators who were undercover to be able to smuggle fake explosives, weapons and other illegal imports in numerous of its checkpoints. The issue is very disturbing because the security of the nation has been shaken. Therefore, the DHS should proceed by making incremental changes in its screening procedures. The vulnerability of the airport can be mitigated in various ways such as having incremental changes in the transportation system (Costello & Johnson, 2015). Many of the air travelers have already been subjected to robust security checks in the airport system that has managed to employ multiple layers of protection to its customers. The protection in question is both visible and invisible and has incorporated intelligence gathering and analysis procedures, random screening at airports, having Federal Air Marshals, screening at various checkpoints, and above all, a very vigilant public. With measures in place, the public will be assured of safety (Bradner & Marsh, 2015).

By making incremental changes, the transportation system is accepting that they had cracks in their systems. They need to be filled because it affects their business operations. The incremental changes are bound to change the security at the transportation station because the public is now involved and will keep a close eye on what is happening in their surroundings (Bakir, 2007). The incremental changes can also include doing a major overhaul that will mean that the staff members are reshuffled to various departments in the airport. The reshuffles are made to make the system safer because they do not prohibit the free movement of goods and people. Before they get too comfortable in that department, staff members are again reshuffled to necessitate safety measures are enhanced. Rotation is the best method to help employees remain competitive in their various departments.
