¶ … manufacturing models that appear to be incompatible at first glance. The conclusion is that integration is possible, and that this can be done to the benefit of both the manufacturer and the company as user. The integrated software package, enterprise resource planning, or ERP, has been used by organizations for the part ten years. However, material requirements planning problems resulted in the emergence of a new manufacturing model, known as Lean. The rest of the article considers the viability of using the systems together, since many companies have an investment interest in ERP, while integrating components of Lean to optimize their production efficiency.

The main difference between Lean and ERP is that the former places emphasis upon continual production improvement, while the latter is mostly concerned with planning. The premise is that ERP slows down the production process by unnecessary data tracking, while Lean aims at optimizing production speed.

In response to the need for Lean tools in order to increase productivity, ERP manufacturers have attempted to incorporate Lean components in their software in the form of modules or add-ons. In this way an integrated solution is sought for companies who cannot viably replace their ERP system with something entirely new. Helpful suggestions for the integration process include a survey of the company's manufacturing operations in order to determine its ERP and Lean needs.

Finally, an integrated approach is suggested in order to optimize the systems used by companies. With this the article brings a 21st century approach to the view of manufacturing tools. The emphasis in the contemporary world is on choice. It should be no different for either companies or manufacturers. A wide variety of software should be available in order to provide companies with the opportunity to make choices that optimize their particular production styles.

Ayers (2000, p. 4) describes a supply chain as "Life cycle processes supporting physical, information, financial, and knowledge flows for moving products and services from suppliers to end-users." A supply chain can be short, as in the case of a cottage industry, or quite long and complex as in the manufacture, distribution, and sales of automobiles. In fact, the automobile supply chain has its origin in the mining of the

Pedagogic Model for Teaching of Technology to Special Education Students Almost thirty years ago, the American federal government passed an act mandating the availability of a free and appropriate public education for all handicapped children. In 1990, this act was updated and reformed as the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, which itself was reformed in 1997. At each step, the goal was to make education more equitable and more accessible to

66). Furthermore, social software will only increase in importance in helping organizations maintain and manage their domains of knowledge and information. When networks are enabled and flourish, their value to all users and to the organization increases as well. That increase in value is typically nonlinear, where some additions yield more than proportionate values to the organization (McCluskey and Korobow, 2009). Some of the key characteristics of social software applications

Brocklesby advocates 'Soft OR' approaches such as Multi-Criteria Decision Analysis, Data Envelope Analysis, Cognitive Mapping, Soft Systems Methodology and the Theory of Constraints to allow for "conflicting objectives and multiple subjectivities" (Brocklesby 2007, p.1073). For example, the Theory of Constraints (TOC) deploys the TOC Thinking Processes to map social, material, and personal consequences of collective decisions. A TOC Current Reality Tree, searches for root causes of problems. A representation of

In this sense, the company should be attempting a strategy of aggressive growth, but not the kind of growth it has traditionally sought. In the past, Harley-Davidson has sought to maintain a kind of brand purity that has managed to develop a loyal and committed fan-base while reducing the company's market share over all. Put simply, it does not matter how loyal these fans are if they cannot afford the
