Margin of Error The forensic psychology study selected for this report was a study that conducted a field survey of Spanish forensic psychologists' practices as it relates to the handling of child custody arrangements and deliberations. The study notes that this was an important study because the work of forensic psychologists has become a vital part of child custody disputes between fractured families and plays a large part in which child goes to which parent and why.

The study also notes that the work of these forensic psychologists has a large effect on whether custody is sole custody in favor of one parent over the other or whether the custody ends up being joint custody of some sort whereby legal and/or physical custody is shared by more than one parent or legal guardian of one or more children.

The study notes that forensic psychologists follow a clear and defined hierarchal decision model that guides them to their overall conclusions based on the traits and conditions that exist with the child and each of the parents involved. Margin of Error Analyzed The margin of error in the study is noted as being 0.06.

This is based on the fact that there were 66 forensic psychologists used for the study and the actual margin of error depicts just how accurate the results of this study may or not be based on a comparison of the sample size of forensic psychologists and the actual size of the overall forensic psychologist pool.

In other words, the results of this study are going to be at least mostly accurate but there is indeed some fairly sizeable room for error because the 66 forensic psychologists consulted for this study obviously are just a sample and do not necessarily speak for or otherwise represent the entire pool of the people in the field of forensic psychology.

The main reason for the margin of error being necessary is because it is not possible to have the entire pool of forensic psychologists reviewed as part of the study and that would be the only surefire way to get a complete and defined picture. Instead, a representative sample is used. The larger the sample the better, obviously, because the larger the sample the less wiggle room there is going to be between the sample looked at and the entire body.

Perhaps another explanation for the margin of error in this study is noted in the abstract of the document, whereby it is acknowledged that they questionnaire looked at forensic psychologists that were retained or secured by the court as well as situations where one of the child custody parties in question retained the forensic psychologist.

It is not immediately clear whether that figured into the margin of error because that would certainly affect the motives and even the outcome of the study in general but whether/how much of an impact was had was not immediately made clear. Conclusion In short, the margin of error.
