I am a marketing professional with over twenty years' experience working for advertising agencies and for some of the world's most profitable and highly-respected companies, including AT&T, Lucent, and McDonalds. My expertise includes both traditional and e-commerce marketing.

From my personal, practical experience in the field I have honed my natural instincts regarding what makes a good marketing campaign. I pride myself on my ability to learn. However, my desire to expand my capabilities and personal marketability has led me back to school, to gain more technical knowledge of the ever-changing field of marketing. An executive MBA is an ideal match for my aspirations.

I would be able to work side-by-side fellow professionals in my field and other fields of business and learn more about academic conceptualizations of marketing which I could then apply to my 'real life' work in the 'real' world. I could also learn from my colleagues' past experiences and benefit from my debates and discussions with them. At present I am not employed, so I would be able to devote my full attention to my studies.

Over the course of my tenure in the program, I hope to expand my professional network and gain knowledge so I can become more flexible, adaptable, and employable in the future. Within my own professional lifespan, I have seen the expectations and attitudes within my field undergo a profound shift. The discipline of marketing is likely to become even more volatile in the future.

Obtaining an EMBA will enable me to meet the challenges set by my clients and ensure that I can continue to provide service of the highest caliber. I have always been a risk-taker in my field, and the EMBA will better prepare me to take such calculated risks. Finally, obtaining an EMBA would be a significant accomplishment, personally as well as professionally as I am an immigrant born in Mexico who obtained citizenship in 1999. I would be the first person ever in my family to obtain a graduate degree. Q2.

What are the contributions you will make to the program and how will your experience and expectations benefit classmates and the EMBA program? My unique perspective would enable me to contribute a multifaceted cultural and historical perspective to the history and practice of business. My formal marketing career began in 1989 so I have witnessed firsthand the dramatic historical shift that occurred with the transition from pre-Internet to post-Internet marketing. This has made me uniquely aware of the differences between marketing in the 20th century and marketing in the 21st century.

I pride myself in being forward-thinking and while I have worked to promote products via more traditional marketing channels, I am acutely aware of the shift that has occurred in marketing in terms of how products and services are showcased and how consumers relate to those services and products. Branding and brand definitions have changed and become more interactive and relationship-based. However, the human elements of managing workers and clients through cross-functional teams and in B2B and B2C relationships still are based upon timeless principles of customer.
