Master's At The School Of International Studies, Term Paper

¶ … master's at the school of International Studies, through the program offered Ewha Woman's University in Korea. This graduate education will enable me realize both my long and my short-term dreams as an academic disciple of business education and a business professional in the field of international business. My short-term professional dream is to work in a consulting company dealing with the current challenges of globalization, but my ultimate long-term goal is to become a female entrepreneur of my own international business consulting company, after gaining such exposure to how a multinational firm spanning the Pacific Rim and the America continent is run from an insider's perspective.

In our current society, globalization is the driving force that shapes every person's daily life. Of course, I feel this particularly strongly given that I came to the United States to study abroad when I was...

I received B.A degree from the University of Massachusetts in the city of Boston. I am currently working in and based in the United States, although my family still lives in Korea.
My own life and education thus has broached two countries and cultures, and two business and educational environments. I wish to return to Korea to get a better grounding in the current Korean economy and Korean culture. I also wish to touch base with the Korean aspect of my history and character. I wish to do this not simply for personal reasons but because I believe it is crucial for future professionals to learn in a multicultural environment, and I have the unique gift of having a personal history that spans more than one nation and culture.

I believe I have a great deal to offer the program, not simply because of my exposure to two different cultures. I am currently working for Information Technology consulting company, as a part of the Information Technology staff as systems analyst in United States. Since my graduation in 2000, I have learned a great deal, as the result of my work over the past four years, in terms of technology's impact upon international business. Thus, I hope, within and without of the classroom, to offer my fellow students knowledge of my experiences in the technical aspects of business in the United States as well as gain greater knowledge of international business as a whole.

In my present employment, I support senior consultant in the development and analysis of the information system in the area of strategic systems planning, business information planning, and data modeling. I also conduct extensive market research and identify new business opportunities in LABBLEE's enterprise target markets. I wish to connect this technical prowess of mine to the managerial aspects international business education. I intend to change the focus of my current professional direction from technology to management, one of the main reasons I seek to embark upon a graduate education.

Gaining a master's degree in the field of International Management will thus not only supplement my cross-cultural perspective with the current theoretical frameworks of international technology, business management, and language and cultural awareness classes from a Korean perspective. It will also enable me to take a new direction in my professional life and help others who seek to similarly change the direction of their professional life, at the university, as we learn from one another by talking about our mutually different yet complementary cultural and professional experiences and expertise. Also, even though the program will be conducted in English, living in Korea and learning in English will keep both aspects of my cultural and linguistic proficiencies 'sharp' and in a continual state of challenge.
