Maturing From My Mom's Cancer
High School is a very difficult stage in any teenager's life. The experiences that one has to go through and the hurdles that need to be overcome can sometimes prove to be overwhelming. This is truly a challenging phase in any individual's life as they are growing up to face situations both on a social as well as a personal level.
My story of acquiring a more mature outlook on life is no different. My transition into High School was not an easy one. From the beginning I had to face the fact that academics was not one of my strong sides. The grades which I achieved were near to average, something one should not be proud of. However, at the same time while I suffered on the academic front, my social life was doing well. In fact flourishing would be a more appropriate word to describe it. I was successful in adding a lot of friends to my circle with whom I usually hung out.
The truth was, I was having a great time. I had friends around me with whom I used to go on trips and hang outs. I also got involved in sports. Somewhere during all of this, I lost myself in the social scenario. I kept telling myself that this would help me get over the hardship that I faced in the new school and with the passage of time things will improve and I will be able to completely adjust to the new surroundings. However, this obviously came at a cost. My academics suffered a lot. My grades, which I already had a tough time pulling up, started to deteriorate further. On the other hand, my parents were naturally concerned about my progress but on the surface they tried to encourage me in the best possible way. Instead of seeking motivation from their words of wisdom and support, I became even more sluggish and started blaming the education system for being too hard on me. I completely failed to take into account that lack of effort which was displayed from my end. The outcome of my attitude towards my studies was obviously negative and a concern for my parents as well.
