Mayor Dennis Reddick Incident at Verizon Music Center

The facts of the evening of June 27th seem not to be in question, however the implications could be long lasting. On the night in question, parrot heads gathered at the Verizon Music Center to hear the best Jimmy Buffet could bring them. Sadly, after an evening of looking for his lost shaker of salt, Noblesville Mayor Dennis Reddick turned a sun and fun concert into a domestic violence scene.

Shortly following the concert, Mayor Reddick was arrested for allegedly choking his girlfriend. Two days later the victim/girlfriend announced that she had been the first to strike Mayor Reddick, and therefore he was only acting in self-defense. The public has now demanded the Mayor's resignation, yet he refuses to succumb to his constituent's pressures and in fact is on track for his re-election campaign in November.

Despite whether or not the girlfriend had actually been the first to strike, Mayor Reddick simply had no reason to retaliate with violence. Violence in the defense of violence simply is unacceptable, especially for a publicly elected official. Part of Mayor Reddick's job, whether he realizes it or not, is to set an example for the general public. He is, in many ways, a role model and as such needs to act as such. The street thuggish mentality, "Well, she hit me first..." is morally reprehensible, and an embarrassment to the community of Noblesville.
