When this happened, the ideas of democracy were subverted through allowing for a system of persecution against blacks to remain. (McMillan) Evidence that is used to support this can be seen in restaurants, beaches and within the school system. In these areas, he shows that a system of discrimination is in place to prevent African-Americans from having access to the same kind of opportunities and services as other segments of society. This is causing many of them to never receive the assistance they need in order to be more economically independent. This will eliminate any kind of stereotypes directed towards each other and it will allow everyone to accept the new realities. The best way this can be achieved is through the federal government outlawing the practices of racial segregation by making it illegal to have separate facilities for different races. (McMillan)
Instead, they should follow the example set by the U.S. military. At their facilities, blacks and whites have access to the same services side by side. There are greater amounts of understanding and acceptance based upon these practices. If this were to occur on a national level, these issues will disappear with whites being forced to accept what is happening. It is at this point when various stereotypes will be eliminated.
