In order to determine how a day without the media would look like, it is important to analyze the roles that the media play. The most important roles of media refer to information, education, and communication (Foulger, 2003). Therefore, an important effect of lack of media is represented by lack of information. As a consequence, people would have no information about subjects of interest to them.

They would not benefit from the latest news on political, social, and economic issues. This could affect their professional life, but also their daily activities. Some of this news is of public interest, while others concern certain groups of the population. The educational role of the media is also important. The lack of media in this direction could lead to the lack of principles and orientation for some population groups. The communicational role of the media must also be taken into consideration.

This is because the media is used by various groups of influence in order to send messages to the public. In other words, it is used by authorities in order to communicate subjects of importance to the population. Therefore, the media serves the interests of both the government and the population. The government and its authorities use media to communicate their messages to the population. The accessibility and availability of the different media channels help the population easier understand these messages.

However, there are also other roles that the media play within the society. The entertainment role has increased in importance because of the developments made in this field that attract consumers. Given the fact that entertainment is very important to some of the population and that many people rely on this entertainment provided by the media, the unavailability of media can affect the way these people spend their time. The media are also used by several groups of interest in order to develop perceptions and attitudes.

This is mostly the case of politicians that build their activity around the perceptions of their electors (Ragone, 2010). They need to access the large population, and they obviously use the media in order to reach this objective. In case media would be unavailable, they would not be able to send their messages to people and influence them (Coronel, 2010). Another group that uses media in order to influence people is represented by companies that want to sell their products and services (CDG, 1999).

Therefore, they are interested in influencing people's needs, attitudes, and behaviors. In order to have easier access to large groups of customers, companies use media channels in order to advertise their products. If they could not use media for certain periods of time, this could reflect in people's behavior towards their products and services. They would find it more difficult to influence these people, to send their messages, and to promote the effects and prices of their products.

There are also other groups of people that need media in order to perform the activities associated with their job. These people are represented by publishers, performers, content editors, advertisers, distributors, retailers, critics, investors, and others. These jobs require the frequent use of media channels. The lack of media would prevent these categories to perform the activities associated with their.
