Medical Companies

How do these companies provide care?

Aetna provides care by being a health insurance company that offers a range of services in the field of medical, pharmaceutical, dental, behavioral group, long-term care, and plans for those who are disabled. Humana is also a health insurance company that offers its services in numerous states. United Health Group operates two businesses, known as United Healthcare and Optum, and similar to the two aforementioned companies, it offers health insurance to individuals, which includes seniors.

What types of plans do they have?

Aetna offers various types of plans under its various insurance, which as mentioned before, include medical, dental, vision, medicare, disability, pharmacy, life, student, behavioral health, health expense funds, and wellness products and discounts. Under medical insurance, a person can get a quote via state, which may include individual HMO health benefits plan or QPOS individual advantage health benefits and health insurance plan. Under dental, there are three types of plans, which are DMO, dental PPO or PDN, and dental indemnity. One's employer pays health expense funds by offering a health savings account or HSA, health reimbursement arrangement or HRA, or flexible spending accounts or FSA. The aforementioned health expense funds are not for individual purchase but through employer provided plans. Pharmacy plans and services provided by Aetna are also through employers and not for individual purchases, especially via Aetna pharmacy. It offers lower costs for drug prescriptions, especially for generic brands in comparison to brand name drugs. Medicare insurance under Aetna is for those of an older age, namely seniors who need the coverage via Aetna medicare. Disability insurance is offered for those who are injured, and the disability products offered include short-term disability or STD and long-term disability or LTD. Aetna also offers disability discount programs, which isn't offered for individual purchases but via employers. The discount program offers savings on eye care products and services like optometric exams, glasses, LASIK surgery, Furthermore, there's a discount program for hearing tests and hearing aids, or the fitness discount program that offers savings on gym membership, and exercise equipment. The types of plans offered under life insurance includes basic life term, supplemental term life, accidental death and personal loss or AD&PL, and dependent life insurance and dependent AD&PL for one's children or spouse. The medical plans offered by Humana include a choice of plans and deductible levels. As a result there are copay plans, 100% after deductible plans, health savings account plans, or short-term plans that includes putting money into a HSA. United Healthcare offers plans that include copay, health savings account or HSA, high deductible plans, short-term medical, and student coverage plans.

3.What are the monthly costs for each plan?

The monthly cost for each plan can be individualized depending on what his or her preferences are in terms of premiums and copays. Health insurance quotes differ in terms of location, too, and how many dependents to a family. There are numerous factors and variables in terms of how much health insurance cost.

4.As a patient, which plan would you choose and why?

As a patient I would choose a high deductible plan because the only thing sure in life is how inconstant it is. Therefore, I would rather choose to pay a higher deductible compared to other insurance plans but my premium is lower. Also, although I have to take responsibility to cover any minor or routine health care expenses until my deductible is met, I would take that chance in case anything medically horrible happens. As well, once my deductible is met, the other additional health care costs are covered by the insurance. I would rather protect myself from unexpected accidents or illnesses at a lower cost by paying more upfront than pay more later, which might be a situation where another insurance plan won't cover.
