Medtronic

The question of whether Medtronic is a nicher depends upon perspective. When a single focus is upon each single product, they can be said to appeal to niche markets. The external and implantable pacemakers and related products for example would appeal to the market of heart sufferers and their caregivers. As the company expanded, they were able to develop other products for both heart conditions and other ailments of the body. Each product individually appeals to the niche for the specific condition that they manage or cure.

When the perspective is widened to include all the products that Medtronic offers, the company can still be viewed to some extent as a nicher. The products appeal to patients and medical professionals who are concerned with specific conditions. However, this point can be debated with the counter view that the wider market means that it is no longer a niche. Indeed, the many therapies offered include a wide range of illnesses, which might imply that the company's products now appeal to a general medical market rather than just a niche.

The question can also be considered from a historical perspective. The company's first niche product was its external pacemaker. Much lighter and smaller than the existing model, it appealed particularly to the pre-adult heart patient population. With the development of its implantable model, the company was a nicher in the true sense of the world, appealing to the heart patient market and the medical professionals working with heart-related conditions.

As Medtronic's product range widened, its appeal to a single niche became divided among several markets. If an overall perspective is therefore taken, it can be said that Medtronic's products appeal to a range of markets within the wider category of the medical profession. When seen in a collective sense, the product range is not so much focused upon a niche as it is upon the main medical market, whereas each specific product on the other hand does appeal to a niche.

Q3: Compare FDA Form 483 to an FDA "warning letter." The intention of a Form 483 is to teach, not to punish, according to the FDA. After it conducts an inspection, the FDA prepares an internal briefing. However, it also presents a Form 483 in private to the establishment which lists all of the institution's violations of FDA regulations (Gyi et al. 2001). This is to better enable the facility to

Taken in isolation, some of the new, minimally-invasive procedures are less expensive by far, when analyzed on a procedure-by-procedure basis, than previous significant surgical interventions, as demonstrated below: Procedure Cost Estimated duration of 'cure' CABG 5-7 years PCI (percutaneous coronary intervention 3-5 years Based on the above analysis, it would appear to be clear that a PCI is more cost-effective than CABG procedures. This may not be true when all costs are considered, however. The logic of
