He described the total personality as the psyche, classifications as follows. First is the ego which is the conscious dimension of personality, then the personal unconscious which includes anything that is not presently conscious. It includes memories that are easily brought to mind and those that have been suppressed for some reason excluding the instincts that Freud includes. And then there is the collective unconscious, a pool of our experiences and a type of familiarity we are all born with and yet we can never be directly mindful of it.
It persuades all of our experiences and behaviors, the majority in particular the disturbing ones, but we only know about it in some way, by looking at those influences. There are some experiences that give you an idea about the effects of the collective unconscious more clearly than others such as the experiences of first love, of deja vu, and the instantaneous appreciation of certain signs and the meanings of certain tradition, could all be understood as the unexpected concurrence of our outer realism and the inner reality of the collective unconscious.

Adler therefore maintains that psychology should focus on the study of the individual rather than on formulating the general laws governing human behavior. One of the basic concepts of his theory is fight with inferiority complex. A term he coined and referred to as a sense of inadequacy and weakness that is universal and inborn (Kaplan & Sadocks, 1998). He gave the impression of personality as a dependable sum total. People behave in unique ways and deal with life's problems in their own distinctive manner. He assumed that the explanation to any predicament is intending for an accomplishment and combating with inferiority complex.
