The analysis explores how consultants can work with consultees to develop partnerships that facilitate problem-solving processes, particularly in addressing drug overdose crises in communities like New Jersey. The collaborative consultation approach under the system-centered model is highlighted as an effective framework for improving communication and developing step-by-step solutions for substance use withdrawal.
On mental health issues, consultations incorporate several models of consultation. These models have evolved since they began in the 1940s, and some of the early pioneers in this field include Caplain, Gallessich, and Schein, who came up with some of the earliest models (Section 3: Client Issues and Advocacy). For example, Gallesich, in 1982, came up with several varying models of consultations depending on the problems of the consultee and the consultant\\\\\\\'s intervention techniques. In 2016, Gladding synthesized some comprehensive consultation models and described four categories reflecting those developed earlier.
There are several unresolved problems and critical mental health issues in my community, New Jersey. The major problem which has contributed to mental health issues in my region and has not been resolved is the issue of drugs as a result of a drug overdose. The case has increased nationally, mainly due to synthetic opioids. According to a report for New Jersey as ranked in the States Website in 2020 (Section 3: Client Issues and Advocacy), this is correct. According to the ranking, deaths in New Jersey due to overdose increased from 16.3 per 100,000 in 2015 up to 33.7 per 100,000 in 2020. I have some expertise about this issue and taking up the role of a consultant. I can be in a position to offer advisement and address the problem accordingly.
The consultation model I would use is the collaboration or process consultation model. As a consultant, I will work with the consultees and develop a partnership to solve their mental health issues. I will choose the collaborative consultation Approach under the system-centered model (Chapter 13: Supervision and Consultation). The reason for choosing this model and the consultation approach is because they will help me achieve my goals in resolving the joint problems of the consultees. The approach will help me collect information and identify a problem by communicating with the consultee. My goal is to facilitate a problem-solving process. This means that I will work together with the consultees and develop solutions to withdraw from substance use slowly. The consultees under the use of substances fit in this model since my efforts as the consultant aim to improve consultees\\\\\\\' communication; when they open up, we can solve the issues together, step by step, which is my other primary goal.
