Dance Festival Mission Statement
Sebastien Lefrancois' choreography directly addresses the social, political, and cultural causes in this Festival Mission because it is largely predicated on hip hop dancing, and on hip hop itself. Hip hop has always been a medium that speaks directly to the people and which illustrates some of the social inequities in contemporary society. These social concerns are reflected in the type, tempo, and texture of the music that Lefrancois will deploy in his work at the festival, as well as in the upfront, non-compromising stance of the dance itself.
Keith Diorio's choreography will address the cultural themes of this festival by largely focusing as the counterpoint to Lefrancois. Instead of being overt, his choreography will reflect subdued tones and movement, emphasizing the need for social liberty and the sort of social equity that is largely bereft of today's society. It will provide the bondage that Lefrancois work liberates the audience and society from.
2. Sebastien Lefrancois is one of the most exciting young choreographers working today. He has succeeded in pushing the genre of hip hop dance beyond its conventional limitations (which are considerable as is), and transcending different period time pieces and styles. He was perhaps most successful in this endeavor in his work Romeos and Juliettes, which succeeded in updating Shakespeare's timeless classic with modern, hip hop and post hip hop sensibilities.
There are few mediums that Tyce Dioro, his choreography, and his amazing dancing, have not yet graced. He has worked extensively in film with a list of movie credits that range from comedies to thrillers, including 13 Going on 30 and Brad Pitt and Angelino Jolie's vehicle Mr. & Mrs. Smith. He was appeared on numerous television programs dancing, choreographing, and judging other dancers including such prominent ones as The Oprah Winfrey Show and The Academy Awards.

4. The video described is Romeos et Juliettes 3, ballet, Suresnes cite danse. Adrenaline will increase while watching this work. Beckoning and gesturing takes place in it. Crashing rhythms and harmony swell the dancer's movements. Dancing takes place in different types and forms.
The next video described is Tyce Diorio's Jessica King & Will Wingfield -Contemporary Routine. Astounding slow and moody music characterizes this work. Buoyant springing and stepping accompanies this pieces. Careful interaction between the two dancers emphasizes sensual caring between them.
4.2. Each of my choreographers will present premier works. Part of the allure of this festival is that audiences will be treated to spectacle that they cannot get anywhere else -- at least until the choreographers decided to perform these numbers elsewhere. Although there will not be any collaborations, the pieces that the choreographers choose will interrelate. Lefrancois' will be incendiary, while Diorio's will be constrained.
4.3. Audiences will be taught different dances by the three choreographers. The only requirement is that they not involve strenuous movement which might disrupt the seating arrangements. There will be no collaborations among the choreographers, except for spontaneous ones if they feel like it. Spontaneity and its role in crusading for social justice is one of the themes of this festival.
4.4 This festival will occur on the evening of the Summer Solstice. That evening will be June 21. On that day, Diorio's set will take place first at 4 p.m. His set will illustrate the restraint and constraint under which society is operating. The next choreographer's set will take place at 6 p.m. This set will act as a bridge between oppression and revolution. Lefrancois' set will take place at 8, as the sun set, and as dancing insurrection occurs.
5. This festival will take place in the Bay Area. Specifically, the festival will occur in the city of Oakland, California. There is a tremendous amount of significance to holding the festival in this location. Oakland has long been seen as a city in which revolution and social protests are a significant portion of the lives of its people. It is the city where the nationwide Black Panther Party movement originated, and where some of its most famous leaders worked and lived for some time. However, there is also a tradition of beauty and serenity found in this city, particularly in the neighborhood known as Woodminster. The Woodminster Amphitheater, then, will serve as the ideal location to hold this festival. During the summer months there is a 300-foot waterfall that the keepers of this park (which houses the amphitheater) run, which helps to symbolize the sort of forward motion and progress that is a part of this festival.
