M.S. Forensics Psychology - Specialization in Mental Health

Personal/Professional Goals

My professional goal is to become a lead forensics psychologist. Therefore, I am interested in attending graduate school because I plan to pursue a PhD in clinical psychology. My ultimate goal is to become a profiler, so that I can play an integral role in the carrying out of criminal investigations by being the foremost subject matter expert on the cases I work on.

Academic Experience

I earned my bachelor's degree [YOU MAY WANT to STATE in WHICH AREA of STUDY] from Ashford University, and completed my coursework from June 2009 to June of 2012 with a 3.70 grade point average. My graduate school GPA thus far is 3.50. One of the reasons I decided to enroll in this program to become a lead forensics psychologist is due to my military background. I worked as a psychiatric technician in the United States Navy while completing my postsecondary education.

Research Experience

Other than working as a psychiatric technician in the Navy, I have no prior research experience related to this field.

Work/Other Experience

My work experience is all related to my service in the armed forces. From 2000 to 2005 I worked as a dental technician in the Navy; I was employed as a hospital corpsman from 2005 until 2008. I began working as a psychiatric technician in 2008, and still have this job at present.

Why Walden?

This program at Walden is an excellent match for me because it is compatible with the timeline that I would like to accomplish my goals in. Furthermore, I am convinced that this institution can offer me an education that will suitably prepare me for the future career and educational goals to which I aspire. I am certain that completing this portion of my education will make me more marketable as an employee. I initially gravitated towards Walden because of its commendable reputation in its psychology program for forensics as well as its program in clinical psychology. Additionally, the fact that it offers distance education is also extremely agreeable to me since I am an active duty member who will be deployed for 10 months of this year, from January to October.
