Muslims in Germany

In the year 1960, Germany was facing a great scarcity of labor force and due to this reason, many of the Muslims started to migrate in Germany in order to grab the job opportunities in this country. Large parts of the immigrants were successful in getting jobs but it was observed that those Muslims, who migrated earlier for the purpose of employment in Germany, later called their families over there. There is a large population of Muslims in German and this percentage of the Muslims population is larger than that of Lebanese in the German. It was estimated that the total population of Muslim immigrants in German is around forty million. When large population of Muslims were observed in Germany, some of the Germans argued on it due to a number of religious, cultural and social reasons but on the other hand some of the Germans had no problem with the Muslims living in their country (Bontekoe, Ronald, Stepaniants, & Tigranovna, 1977). Apart from this, there are a number of reasons due to which Muslims in German are treated as foreigners even today. These reasons are described below:

One of the biggest problems is related to the language. It is because of the fact that many of the Muslims do not know the German language. This difference in the language creates difficulty in communicating at the corporate as well as social level. In addition to this, there is also a difference in faith of the Muslims in comparison with the Germans. Due to this difference in faith, some of the Germans do not want the presence of Muslim holy places in their neighborhood. Apart from this reason, there is a wrong perception among some Germans about the Muslims and they relate the Muslims with the terrorist's activities. This a major reason because of which the Germans regard Muslims as foreigners.

These differences of religion, language, way of living etc. are some of the cultural barriers, which have been erected by the Germans.

There are a number of problems, which the Muslim immigrants face in German. One of the biggest problems is that these Muslim immigrants do not get the government jobs in German. Besides this, the signboards, advertisement and other guiding rules are written in German language and as it is mentioned above that many of the Muslims do not know how to speak the German language, they face problems in their day-to-day activities. Not only is this, but many of the Muslims have a feeling that they are discriminated from the local citizens of German in several ways.

Additionally, it has been commonly observed that the younger generations of Muslims are more towards their religion as compared with their adults and parents. The reason behind it is that the young scholars of Muslims are paying more attention towards the young generation because they do not want their youngsters to indulge into other activities. Apart from this, these scholars have made efforts to start the Islamic teachings in the schools from the beginning so that the youth can become more Islamic (Bontekoe, Ronald, Stepaniants, & Tigranovna, 1977).
