Skills/Competencies for the 21st Century Manager

Technical Skills

Technical skill is an important factor that makes a 21st century manager. With all the development and advancement in the many areas of today's living, such as developments in the business industries and information technology, it is important that the 21st century manager should have the necessary technical knowledge and skills to cope with the fast and continuous developments that will allow growth to his organization, people, and himself.

Conceptual Skills

Along with the technical skills, conceptual skill is another factor that makes a 21st century manager. He should be able to demonstrate the ability to convey the right thinking and make use of the right concepts in his job. This is important because it is in his thinking ability that his organization and people will depend most of what are to be done in the job. Conceptual skill is also among the important factors where the success of an organization and the people working in it depends.

Technical Skills

Personally, I plan to develop more of my technical skills to be able to fit and qualify as a 21st century manager. Although I believe that I have good or average technical skills, I still intend to gain and learn more knowledge from the study that I chose and from the profession that I will choose in the future. To build more technical skills, among the actions that I will take are spending time in learning things that interest me and finding ways where I can practice the things that I learned.

Conceptual Skills believe that like most of us, I am also gifted of having conceptual skills. That is, having the ability to use the right logic and thinking, come up with feasible decisions, and find the right solutions to problems. However, despite that I do not lack conceptual skills, I believe that continuous practice and use of conceptual abilities still provides room for improvement. Thus, to build more conceptual skills, I plan to involve myself in tasks that require the use of logic and thinking. In this way, I can learn more skills and at the same time improve my conceptual skills.

Interpersonal Skills

Among any other skills, to build interpersonal skills require the less effort. This is because all that one is to do is to learn proper inter-relationship etiquette. However, in analyzing my skills, it is in interpersonal skills where I need much improvement. I lack in this skill because of my shyness that causes me to communicate and relate less to others. To be able to build interpersonal skills while in my Master's program, I plan to join organizations that interest me in school. In this way, I have the opportunity of meeting different kinds of people, as well as exposing myself in relating with others to overcome my shyness. From there, I can also learn how to relate with different kinds of personalities that I believe can help me build my interpersonal skills.
