Outline the basic structure of the national airspace system

The national airspace system is a collection of: equipment, personnel and facilities. These are designed to provide a total view of the air space for particular vicinity (i.e. The greater New York metropolitan area). The basic structure of the system consists of a number of different elements to include: providing a large amount of facilities, establishing vital safety procedures / standards, the innovative use of different pieces of technology and trained personnel. Providing a large number of facilities is when there are enough air traffic control locations that they are strategically situated in different geographic areas. The idea is to use this system as a way to effectively monitor the air space for each different region of the country. As a result, more than 750 facilities have been created to: improve communication and coordination for the air space of a specific area. ("IFR Operations," n.d.)

Establishing vital safety procedures is when the FAA has outlined different regulations, surrounding the operation of: the facility and the air space in a particular region. This is important, because this providing a foundation of: improving communication and preventing disasters from occurring (by having all locations following the same safety standards / procedures). The innovative use of technology is when each facility is using different pieces of equipment, to help control the traffic in the air space for a geographic area. This includes everything from utilizing a radar control system to a localized directional aid adapter. Where, these different tools can be used, to help improve the ability of the operator to safely direct traffic (which is in line with the various safety regulations and procedures). This is important, because it is showing how numerous tools and technology solutions; are implemented as a part of improving the monitoring of the air space in a certain region. The use of trained personnel is when you are making sure that each location has professionals who understand how to integrate the above elements together. This ensures that an effective air traffic control system is in place, which helps to maintain an operative air transportation system. This is accomplished through: having focused training / continuing education, maintenance, security and field maintenance personnel. These different elements are important, because they are showing how the various pieces of the air traffic control systems must be integrated with professionals (who are highly trained). As the different elements together, combined with trained personnel will help the national air space system, to be effective at addressing the various air transportation issues. When you step back and analyze the above information, it is clear that the nation's air traffic control system is combination of a number of different work parts. This is important, because these elements are used in conjunction with one another, to encompass the basic structure of the national air space system. As a result, all of various pieces are dependent upon the other, to create an effective structure that can adjust to changes that are taking place.

Describe the Impact of the FAA's National Airspace System Plan (NASP)

The impact of the FAA's National Airspace System Plan is that it is creating a standard procedure that can be used to: provide guidance and support for the air traffic control system in a specific region. This is important, because this plan serves as the basic foundation for: establishing the proper operating procedures and how to adjust to changes that are taking place in the industry (such as how to implement new technology / regulations in the plan). Where, the strategy will identify specific areas that need to be addressed (at a host of different airports around the country) including: systems planning, trends, the different problems facing capacity / delays, the effective use of technology, funding, forecasting / trends and policy considerations. These different elements are important, because they are establishing a strategy that can be used by airports around the world, to address the underlying challenges that they are dealing with. At the same time, the strategy is working to provide standard operating procedures that should be embraced by the different facilities throughout the United States. This is significant, because once this has occurred over a certain period of time; it will help to improve the efficiency of: the air traffic control system and the safety at the airport. At which point, the nation's air transportation system can run smoothly, at addressing the different transportation needs of: air travelers and other organizations.
