¶ … Nations be Glad! - Main Point

The main point of the book Let the Nations be Glad! By John Piper is that God has supremacy in missions. Many people have forgotten how important God is, and still others have forgotten how significant Christian missions can be to those that have not heard the Word of God, or to those that need to be reminded. Because these issues are so overlooked by many segments of society, Piper sets out in his book to remind everyone of the importance of this issue and how much God can do if one will allow him to do it. The area that people are most lacking in appears to be prayer. Not enough people are praying properly and often enough. Instead, they are getting by with a short bed-time prayer or something similar. Missions, Piper feels, are what come of proper prayer. However, he is also aware of the fact that missionaries must often suffer and sacrifice, and therefore many people decide that missionary work is not what they want to do with their lives.

While some people may be reluctant, Piper argues that there is no sacrifice that God is not worthy of. In other words, those that truly love and worship God should not refuse missionary work just because there may be some suffering involved. Anyone that is getting ready for missionary work, or even thinking about the idea of missionary work, would want to read this book and see what Piper has to say about the issue and why it is so important to reach out to all nations. There are others that would also benefit from this book, however, as the main point is about the supremacy of God and how the work that someone is doing can be seen as being important where God is concerned. While missionaries are the primary focus, those that work as pastors, campus ministers, and youth counselors could also benefit from the information that Piper gives, because they all do work for the glory of God and understanding this more clearly will help them to connect their labor to the purposes that God has for them globally.

If we look at one of the absolutes, such as abortion in cultures in which choice is at least generally available about reproductive options abortion is at least relatively unstigmatized and access to it is legal and there are no significant economic barriers, a woman may still have religious or ethical or emotional reasons why she would perceive abortion negatively. A woman, for example, who has suffered through a number

Martin Luther King explains that it is vital that mankind learn to put aside war-making in favor of active peace-making. His argument is in some respects firmly set in his historical era, as he is arguing against the Vietnam war. However, there are many ways in which his arguments are uncannily modern as well, and might be applied just as easily to the current world situation. He suggests that
